Bunia, November 7, 2026 — As part of its ongoing efforts to improve the quality of higher education, the Higher Institute of Medical Techniques of Nyankunde (ISTM Nyankunde) organized a University Pedagogy Day on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at Amphitheater 3 of the institution.

Organized under the initiative of the Academic General Secretariat, this event was part of the institution's management policy aimed at strengthening the pedagogical competencies of teaching staff and promoting quality higher education in accordance with the requirements of the Bachelor-Master-Doctorate (LMD) system.

Held under the central theme "Improving the Quality of Teaching, Learning, and Assessment in the LMD System: Responsibilities and Commitments of Academic Stakeholders," the event provided an opportunity for lecturers to exchange experiences, reflect on academic practices, and share ideas for improving teaching and learning.

Three Key Sub-Themes to Improve Pedagogical Practices

The discussions focused on three major sub-themes presented by different facilitators.

The first sub-theme, entitled "Pedagogical Strategies and Student Support to Improve Learning and Academic Success," was facilitated by Dr. MALOBI PATO Emmanuel, PhD.

His presentation focused on improving teaching methods, strengthening student academic support, and adopting strategies that encourage active student participation in the learning process. The session highlighted the importance of appropriate pedagogical guidance in promoting academic success within the LMD system.

The second sub-theme, entitled "Assessment of Learning in the LMD System: Quality of Examinations, Fairness, and Prevention of Academic Fraud," was presented by CT Undehoso Okameli Isse Mundeke Elisé.

The presentation addressed the requirements for quality academic assessment, including examination design, objectivity in evaluating students' knowledge and competencies, fairness in assessment procedures, and the prevention of academic fraud.

It also emphasized the responsibility of lecturers to ensure transparency, credibility, and integrity in university assessment practices.

The third sub-theme, entitled "Professional Ethics, Responsibility, and Accountability of Lecturers in the Management of Academic Activities," was facilitated by Ms. KYAKIMWA KATHOVOVO Léonie, Secretary General for Research at ISTM Nyankunde.

Her presentation highlighted the importance of ethical and professional standards in university teaching. Particular emphasis was placed on individual and collective responsibility, professional integrity, academic discipline, and accountability in fulfilling academic duties.

A Day of Reflection, Experience Sharing, and Collective Commitment

In keeping with its Christian values, ISTM Nyankunde began the event with an opening prayer and a brief meditation on the Word of God, followed by welcoming remarks and the official opening of the working session.

Beyond the thematic presentations, the day's program provided opportunities for discussions and group work aimed at identifying corrective measures and priority commitments to improve pedagogical practices within the institution.

The group discussions were followed by a plenary session designed to encourage participants to share their reflections and formulate recommendations for strengthening the quality of education.

The program also included a synthesis of the discussions, the adoption of recommendations, and the assignment of responsibilities for their implementation.

A Renewed Commitment to Academic Excellence

Through this University Pedagogy Day, ISTM Nyankunde reaffirmed its determination to place teaching quality, student academic success, and lecturers' professional responsibility at the heart of its institutional priorities.

This initiative reflects the commitment of the institution's General Management to promoting a culture of excellence, integrity, and continuous improvement in pedagogical practices, in line with the requirements of the LMD system.

It also represents an important step toward strengthening the capacities of teaching staff for the 2026–2027 academic year, with the ultimate goal of providing quality education to future healthcare professionals.

ISTM Nyankunde thus continues to fulfill its mission of providing education grounded in science, competence, responsibility, and professional conscience in service to the community.
